Almost all schengen visas are short term visas. If you have stayed there for sometime like 90 days of your visa duration, your visa may not be simply extended. This is because you have to meet the criteria of schengen rules before your schengen visa is granted for extension. The rule may be, you would’ve not stayed there for more than 90 days in the last 180 days and also your visa should be valid enough to get extension.

- Schengen visa usually carry different validity than to the duration you are going to spend there. But in case you have landed in the schengen country late and need extension to stay for longer duration, you can be taken into consideration.

While you are presenting your case for the visa officer for extension, ensure you are coming with valid reason that justifies. Proper supporting documents and visa fee needs to be submitted. Be prepared for the interview and wait for the outcome.
Most importantly do not wait for visa to get expired before you apply for extension. If visa expired and you want go for extension you might face trouble. Ensure you are still staying in the schengen country at the time of application procedure. While the process is in progress do not leave schengen area borders.
If your visa extension is approved you will be permitted to stay in the country if not be prepared to leave in less than 48 hours.
For Visa extension you are not required to submit documents as many as you would have submitted for the first time application.
You will be asked to submit only the supporting documents for your extension like financial proof, extension form, passport and insurance. You might still have the travel insurance that you would have purchased for first visa and you might go on to extend the existing insurance as well.
If you are currently in the schengen country and trying to apply for the extension, then it is likely your application can be processed online and you may not even be called for interview at office.
But in case you did and was called for interview, be on time and carry every document that supports your requirement for stay and give answers that justifies your extension.
If you are a first time to apply for visa extension then any visa fee will be waived off for political or weather conditions. However it’s different in case where you are extending visa for personal reasons, you will be asked to pay at least 30 Euros. If it’s your second time for extension you will be charged to pay 30 Euros for children and adults have to pay 60 Euros.
